The finale at the NW Pyro demo was very cool and a more traditional sky-puke style finale, the other main option is larger numbers of a single item or series of items, as in the Victory Fireworks demo. This one is a huge number of 200g Red and Silver Razzle, followed by 200g Gold Brocade Bash, then 500g Gold Fever (all PYK).
This video was recently uploaded by QMAN on PyroU here, but I thought it was pretty cool, so I'm throwing it up on my blog too. Description: "This is 6 Atomic Funks setup in sets of 3. This was fired are Johnny Lema's Customer Appreciation night in August of 08."
In this case, a 80 100 shot Thunder Kings were donated to a pyro club to burn up because of quality issues; they couldn't be sold or used in shows, so you might as well do something with them.

This is a much bigger version of what I saw at a different club shoot, so I have some idea of how impressive it would be in person. I know I'd be wearing my earplugs!
In other news, things continue to be slow in my pyro world. I didn't work a show on NYE and don't have anything else coming up for a while. At least I can keep myself busy planning for this years Renn Fayre show. I've got the music all picked out and have done about 2/3 of the scripting. I don't have a budget yet, so I don't know if I'll be able to make my full design happen, but we'll see! I do plan on adding some items like I did last year, so I need to purchase those before too long so I can work them into the script. If things go according to plan, it'll be a hell of a show and worthy followup to the 2008 Renn Fayre fireworks.
They got a new camera, so the quality is great, plus they are even including an HD version if you feel like being fancy. Click here for the video and cue sheet + site map.
Haven't posted one of these is a while... I don't look through Freakpyromaniacs that much because of the language barrier, but there is always a lot of cool stuff, like this front of 13 consumer cakes at a consumer fireworks demo in the Netherlands. I don't know the exact numbers, but I seem to remember that they have a max tube diameter of an inch or so (comparable to a standard 200g cake in the US). On the other hand, they can have harder breaks. I still think we have it pretty good in the US, but they have a lot of nice stuff too.
Big Fireworks is a growing name in 1.4G and has been pretty nice to PyroU as well. They apparently put on quite a demo each year, here (.wmv) is the finale (thanks to PyroU member grdodd for the video).
This is demo season so there are a lot of new videos of great new products and some old stuff in the PyroU and PyroReview galleries, lots of distractions!
#1 - Image on the left, it is cool to see the fuel cloud spreading just ahead of the flame...
#2 - Another one.
#3 - This time outside!
#4 - "Gunpowder" burning. It seems to burn pretty clean, suggesting modern smokeless powder rather than black powder.
Not much else going on right now. Wishing I had been at Winter Blast. When I have free time after graduating hopefully I'll make it. Of course that means I need to join WPA first...
Other than that I have some details to work out on the Renn Fayre show, but nothing too urgent. I'm also spending too much time pondering different 1.4G shells from Victory for next year's show. Which means this year has to go well, I have to be able to do it again, etc. But planning is half the fun... (at least the cheaper and longer lasting half!)
But it is also a good example of a nice show with almost no breaks, that is also almost all 1.4G and even mostly 200g cakes! Click here and download "First Night Tacoma - New Years 2008 Fireworks Display." Here is a rough cue sheet I wrote up in case anyone is curious. I don't know every item for sure because I wasn't there, but I got most of it:
It is a short show, but you can tell the audience still enjoyed it!
0:28 Falling Water Chutes
0:55 Something with pearls and Saturn missiles?
1:20 Blue Tie With Brocade Mine
1:56 Frost Burn With Pearls
2:32 Yin Yang
3:02 GB tycoon?
3:33 Beyond Reality
3:54 Blue Pearl With Gold Strobe Tail
4:24 Rainbow Crunch
4:54 1.3G mines
Another New Years video with consumer fireworks can be found here, this one with the rather different consumer fireworks of the Netherlands.
Anyway, I wasn't the only one doing a show the day after Thanksgiving. Larry over at EFI emailed PML about the show they did in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho for a similar lighting celebration.
The show was quite large and lasted nine minutes. There are a number of spectacular shells in here, especially the shell of shells starting at 5:15 and the two big shells starting at 5:40.
Watch the video!
Clips two, three, four, five. Thanks to PyroU member chris69 for the video.
